PhD Opportunities on Evolutionary Computation and Machine Learning

Prof. Qingfu Zhang is recruiting several PhD students to work on evolutionary computation, machine learning and their applications starting in Sept/2017.  The students will be financially supported by:

·         CityU PhD program  (http://www.sgs.cityu.edu.hk/prospective/rpg/)

·         Hong Kong PhD fellowship (https://www.sgs.cityu.edu.hk/prospective/rpg/hkphd/), and/or

·         A 4-year joint research project with Inria, France on multiobjective evolutionary optimization funded by RGC and ANR.

PhD Entrance Requirements:

·         English: TOEFL>=550 (paper-based) or >=213 (computer-based) or >=79 (internet-based), IELTS >=6.5, or English Test Band 6 >=490.

·         BSc and/or MSc in EE, computer science, control engineering, applied math or any other related subjects. Average MSc Score>=85 (0r 80 for some top universities).

·         Good knowledge of at least one main computer language such as Matlab, C and Java.

·         Knowledge of evolutionary computation and machine learning is desirable but not necessary.

Outstanding applicants can apply for Hong Kong PhD fellowship.  Each fellowship recipient will receive:

·         A monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (approximately US$2,600)

·         A conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approximately US$1,300) per year

·         An additional entrance scholarship of HK$71,496 (approximately US$9,166) covering tuition and on-campus hostel accommodation fees for the first year of studies.
