IEEE Fellow、DCT發明者Rao教授應邀來我校進行學術訪問與交流

應電子工程學院石光明教授及我校國際合作與交流處的邀請,美國The University of Texas(德克薩斯大學)K. R. Rao教授于2015年5月31日至6月4日來我校進行學術交流與訪問。

6月1日上午,Rao教授在主樓II區-227作了題為“HEVC-Tutorial”的精彩報告,報告會由電子工程學院光電與信息處理系牛毅老師主持。Rao教授首先對視頻編碼標準的發展歷程(包括MPEG和H.26x系列)進行了概述,隨后介紹了HEVC的編碼框架及其采用的新技術,并在壓縮效率和運算復雜度方面對HEVC與H.264進行了比較,指出了HEVC編碼標準的優點及面臨的問題。最后,Rao教授總結了視頻壓縮編碼標準下一步的研究方向。

在報告過程中,Rao教授和師生們圍繞報告內容進行了學術討論,并結合自己的經驗向大家傳授如何做研究。此次學術報告開拓了我校廣大師生的學術視野,增強了學術研究氛圍,給予了大家極大的啟發和幫助。報告結束后,Rao教授參觀了電子工程學院航天電子信息研究所,進一步對本課題組的研究工作提出了很多建設性的意見和建議,并積極推進雙方課題組的合作交流。



個人簡歷:Prof. K. R. Rao received the Ph. D. degree in electrical engineering from The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque in 1966. Since 1966, he has been with the University of Texas at Arlington where he is currently a professor of electrical engineering. He, along with two other researchers, introduced the Discrete Cosine Transform in 1975 which has since become very popular in digital signal processing. He is the co-author of the books "Orthogonal Transforms for Digital Signal Processing" (Springer-Verlag, 1975), "Fast Transforms: Analyses and Applications" (Academic Press, 1982), "Discrete Cosine Transform-Algorithms, Advantages, Applications" (Academic Press, 1990). He has edited a benchmark volume, "Discrete Transforms and Their Applications" (Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1985). He has coedited a benchmark volume, "Teleconferencing" (Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1985). Some of his books have been translated into Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Russian. He has conducted workshops/tutorials on video/audio coding/standards worldwide. He has published extensively in refereed journals and has been a consultant to industry, research institutes and academia. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.
