The first workshop on Visual Signal Processing and Communication (VSPC) will be held in Library Lecture Hall C306, Xidian University, Xi'an, China, on 17th Sept., 2008. It is a forum to discuss representation, processing, analysis, communication, interaction and integration of multimedia signals. With the continued advances on computer and network technologies, multimedia has become an indispensable part in our daily life. A large number of new multimedia applications are emerging and have been emerging in past decades, including IPTV, Immersive conference, Internet image and video, on-line entertainment and game, multimedia cellular phone, and so on. At the same time, the widespread deployment of these applications has been the main driving force for advanced multimedia processing technologies.
The workshop is organized as invited presentations and panel discussions. It focuses on key technical areas, including but not limited
Media compression and representation Learning-based media processing
Media communication over wired and wireless networks Theoretic advances in media processing
Media content analysis New applications (e.g., multi-view TV)
                        Vision-based media processing
The first workshop will invite Prof. Chang Wen Chen (Editor-in-Chief, IEEE Trans. CSVT; Professor in University at Buffalo, The State University of New York), Prof. Wen Gao (Professor in Peking University), Prof. Xiaolin Wu (Professor in McMaster University), Prof. Qionghai Dai (Professor in Tsinghua University), Prof. Dapeng Wu (Assistant Professor in University of Florida) and Dr. Feng Wu (Researcher in Microsoft Research Asia). The workshop not only provides a platform for national and international experts to discuss front-tier researches and technologies but also promotes communications and collaborations among them.
